How to make your Steam Library (and games you’re playing) private from your friends and the public

Now Steam have opened the door to the pleasures of adult only gaming, you’re probably going to want to keep your game library private (so none of your friends can see what games you own or what you’re playing). Read on for FSB’s step-by-step guide to making your Steam games private:

– First, you need to scroll over your profile name (from the top left menu) and click ‘Profile’ from the drop-down menu that appears.

– Click the ‘Edit Profile’ button at the top right.

– Now click ‘My Privacy Settings’ from the right side menu

– Steam will now present you with a list that breaks-down each profile privacy element individually. Let FSB help you with exactly what you’ll need to tweak for your specific needs:

* If you want everything private (so just your profile name and avatar are visible to friends and the public), make sure the complete list has ‘Private’ set for each one.

* Just want your games library and the games you’re playing to be private? (Recommended). Just make sure Game details are set to ‘Private’ (so your library, whatever game you’re currently playing, playtime and even your wishlist are no longer available to friends or the public).

Special note: Unless you’re an active trader, you may wish to also switch the Inventory setting to ‘Private’. This is due to your earned trading cards potentially giving-away what games you currently have in your library. Worth considering as we’ve noticed that many adult only games have trading cards too!
