OnlyFans – How to protect yourself and not get scammed

stay safe on only fans

OnlyFans is an amazing platform as not only does it open-up a delightful world of legal adult pleasure at the touch of a smartphone, but it’s also so much safer for model/performer talent. Since COVID, platforms such as OnlyFans have soared in popularity but while the models and performers are safer than ever before, FSB need to ask the burning question…what about the fans/customers? How safe are you when throwing your hard earned money at a total stranger and how can you prevent yourself from getting scammed? While the majority or hard working models on OnlyFans are trustworthy and professional, unfortunately (and like everything else) you will get scammers.

Checkout FSB’s guide to help you enjoy the best of OnlyFans and avoid getting scammed:

Subscription fees

Sub fees are the best place to start at identifying and differentiating the pros, from the scammers. While these are often required by models (as DM’s will take-up a huge amount of their time), be on the lookout for any subs that are far more expensive than the average price. Remember, even the queen of OnlyFans herself (@danniiharwood – Onlyfans first million dollar page) only charges $12.99 per month (and many well-known adult performers also charge around this much or lower), so just be cautious of those requesting twice or even three times that price (especially if they never offer discount periods).

Don’t get us wrong, you need to support the models/performers for their time and work they do, but also remember that as well as the subscription fee, you’ll often still need to buy individual sets (unless they state ‘no paywalls’ in on their page bio) and even pay per DM you send them (be sure to checkout our OnlyFans model reviews and find out what FSB’s top recommended models charge).

OnlyFans DM charges (Tips)

Direct Messaging will vary from model to model. Many will charge per DM no matter if you subscribe or not, while others will allow you to DM them for free, as long as you’ve paid some form of subscription fee. While paid DM’s aren’t necessarily a bad thing (as supporting models is always crucial), you’ll need to be on the lookout for those that are clearly taking advantage. Watch out for subscriptions that both charge AND have a high price per DM ($5 upwards).

The thing is, those that simply wish to DM their must-see model will be fully aware of the charges beforehand (both to sub and to send each DM). However, it’s the communication around custom content, that can really get tricky here (and what this guide is mainly aimed at). While most we’ve used were incredibly fast and professional, we’ve unfortunately had one so far that took a custom payment, only to then never give-out an estimated completion/delivery date for it. Furthermore, the model never sent any form of update on how it was going. This then resulted in us having to DM them to chase it up (at $5 per DM), adding up to almost 100% more then the quoted custom video price (once the first months subscription fee, custom quote price and DM’s to both originally request and then chase, were totalled.

The real kick in the teeth though, was that once the model did send us the custom content…it was only 30 seconds long! (more on how to prevent this with the tips below)

FSB advise to be cautious of OnlyFans models that:

1. Request custom content payments but refuse to give an estimated delivery time before the payment has been made (this will mean it’s either a high chance of a scam or they are so behind/unorganised with existing custom orders, you’ll never get it – or spend a fortune chasing it!)

– Pro models should really be charging a set price per minute, so make sure you ask this, BEFORE paying

– If you have a model bookmarked and suddenly you see something along the lines of ‘Custom requests are closed for now’ – this is actually a GOOD sign. This shows the model is professional enough to recognise their popularity has put them into a situation where they can no longer keep up with demand, so will need to temporarily stop customer requests/payments while they work to deliver the ones they’ve already charged for. This is just good business sense.

2. Still charge above average DM rates (even after subscription). Remember, that even after you’ve paid for a custom video, every time you need to message them to ask what’s going on/how long it will be – that’s a charge to your bank account *While this doesn’t mean a scam on its own (if the model is reliable with messaging/updating you and efficient with content delivery), if it’s combined with the others on this list, it certainly isn’t a good sign!

3. DM rinsing – This means that on top of a higher-than-average per DM cost, after a subscription fee, the model will do whatever they can to get you to DM them back. Now, if YOU keep initiating the DM’s (e.g. horny messages and asking questions) then that’s on YOU. However, what we mean is when the model keeps asking questions about pre-paid custom content, that you’ve already answered in your message thread. This is a very sneaky way of taking money from you, without you even realising just how much it’s costing you overall! While we understand there may be the odd honest and accidental mistake with a repeated question, if these “mistakes” stack-up (when they simply need to scroll-up to get the answer), then they are clearly trying to DM Rinse you (of course this is only an issue if the DM’s are still charged for at a high rate – especially after a subscription fee).

Again, we need to stress that if a model charges a subscription and/or cost per DM fee, this alone does NOT signal a scam. The first tip above is easily the most important to prevent getting scammed on OnlyFans, but also lookout for a combination of the above and always remember to ask as many questions as you can in the first DM (asking if they can offer what you’re after, price and length/amount this will get you, timescales for delivery and if they can keep you updated) BEFORE you make a payment to them.

FSB again want to make clear that OnlyFans is a great place to enjoy amazing adult content that both satisfies customers and keeps talent safe. However, scammers are unfortuanly everywhere money is to be made, so follow our advice and stay safe.
